Discussion:
Is passing on the left ignored everywhere?

Without it, chaos, anarchy, the law of the jungle...
When I drove in the US, I found that the drivers were generally good compared to drivers in my country. American drivers obeyed the highway code, were considerate and aware of dangers on the road.
Wakalukong
I can tell you the basic rule of passing on the outside lane is ignored.

Pretty bad for a developed civilized country. 😞

"KRETP" - Keep right except to pass is not enforced
in a lot of states. In fact, some states allow passing
on the RIGHT where it is "safe and permissible"
to do so. I call it anarchy. Americans do not like
rules or being told what to do. That is why we have
republicans.

I'm tired of being in the right lane, and some jackhole
is riding my tail, high beaming and motioning me to
move over to the LEFT so they can pass or go faster.
What the ?!

Bravo! That's the way it goes. The Republicans preach this "freedom" that kills and maims people --like the guns-- and the Democrats are trying to do something timid without changing anything. I'd say they would equally be screaming at any effort to implement speed cameras.

I can be both the driver on the right or the passing driver on the left, depending on what kind of car I drive and what hurry I'm in. But this conflict not only brings anarchy, it results in ROAD RAGE and plenty of preventable accidents.

Stupid system. Anarchy doesn't work. Many people buy an armored vehicle --an SUV-- to survive in the chaos.

SUVs should come with a *free cow* to justify its use. Smaller SUVs may come with a free goat if there isn't a need for it.

We drive a Honda Pilot and I think it makes sense to keep it in the garage most of the time.

There's a German SUV that almost challenges common sense --the G class-- until you realize the the president of Zimbabwe and his entourage need dignified vehicles. For the rest of us, we can be happy with small efficient vehicles that do NOT put others at risk.

How the SUV became a symbol of masculinity and power? TV, it's all about commercials. What if we banned SUVs from TV like we do with tobacco?

That would be interesting. I produce some necklaces that boost the male pride without endangering others. That's the bottom line. We should not unleash the arms race on our roads.

I understand that many men need a jeep to realize their masculinity but the question is at what price and how big. We can mass produce this jeep for the masses...

Suzuki Samurai. Remember when they first came out in America for only $6,000? It was a real adventure to drive one. The transmission was terrible but you felt adventurous and topless fun. Most importantly, you wouldn't kill a family in the other vehicle in an accident. In reality you were likely to kill yourself before others. That's what I call a manly vehicle. Probably we can place an order with VW for those original military vehicles you would see in WWII movies.

No romanticism anymore? They took it out of the market because it wouldn't meet the safety standards. We need the revolution. Fun for the masses. ;)

"Civilian sales started in 1971, and a year later in the US. But by 1975 it was already gone from the US market for failing to meet new safety standards. Safety was not exactly high on the design criteria, for sure. But then it's probably less likely to roll over than the Jeeps of yore. That was certainly the case in WWII. And it rode a hell of a lot better than the stiff-kneed Jeep."

I-95 from Miami all the way up to West Palm Beach and beyond. You become a sitting duck, vehicles zigzagging around you. Los Angeles doesn't follow the rules either. Drivers of trucks (semis and others) follow this simple rule for the most part. But they are much better trained than the average idiot with a license to kill. There's a character that loves to sit in the fast lane to making sure others don't take advantage of it.

Now kindly provide the locations where lane discipline is observed.

"A combination of a complete and utter lack of driver education, distracted drivers, and selfish ass holes who don't give a shit about other drivers."

"Selfish" is the keyword. USA= United Selfish of America.

What I fail to comprehend is why most drivers of pickup trucks
and vans(everyday Ford Econolines and Dodge Rams)
never feel the need to SIGNAL when they are turning, curbing,
or changing lanes. Do they really think that because of their
size, we're going to be able to know what they're about to do?

Yep, size works. You can be a perfect idiot and ignore every rule by driving a big vehicle.

Article on the news lasdt week. Washington state patrol reported 75,000 tickets issued for failing to KRETP. Probably by pissed off officers trying to get through traffic.

Propsal is going through to add an offense "driving slowly continuously in the passing lane".

Clarification in the papere "slowly" meaning 'at under the speed limit'. It is being held up as "continuously" is too vague for a law.

WTF difference is that and KRETP? Some speculation is it would be an added charge in addition to a KRETP citation.

I have reported people doing it to the WSP and reported drivers of commercial vehicles to their businesses. Doesn't seem to help.

In Europe all you would need to do is flash the lights at the idiot, but here you fear he may brake hard or pull a gun on you.

They simply don't like anyone getting ahead of them. This causes confusion and chaos as you may try to pass on the right. I suggest you imagine having a machine gun in front while squeezing a banana.
